For all of the hype that normally surrounds technological innovation and how high of a pedestal it's help on, there really haven't been too many innovations when it comes to how we interface with computers over the years. Sure, command lines were a huge improvement over punch cards, and GUI's (Graphical User Interfaces, pronounced gooey) were a huge improvement over command lines, but since the introduction of GUI's there really haven't been any real innovations in terms of interfaces. While its true that Mac operating systems look different than Microsoft's Windows operating system and Windows 95 represented a noticeable change of appearance from earlier Windows operating systems, there really aren't many variations among these types of operating systems. Pull down menus are the rule, open programs and windows are organized on panels or task bars, and dialog boxes manage various functions. Even if these things don't go by these particular names in all operating systems they have their equivalents. Even all of the various interfaces for Linux and Unix- KDE, Gnome, and others- all follow the same general layout.

One of the best new gadgets to come about recently is the tablet PC. Tablet PC's are essentially laptop computers that have screens that can rotate around and then fold back down over the body of the computer to provide a display that's easier to carry around. Plus, with the addition of touch screen technology and a stylus, these gadgets can double as electronic clipboards.

If you're looking for high quality home phone service that has plenty of features and is actually affordable, you probably don't want to look to the phone company. This may be surprising to some people- after all, traditionally if you want phone service you turn to the phone company- but conventional phone companies are now subject to some pretty impressive competition from cable TV companies. Comcast in particular provides home phone service that beats anything that the conventional phone companies have been able to come up with.

HDTV DVD technology has a lot of potential in the realms of both home theater and computing. After all, this technology makes it possible to store dozens of gigabytes of data on a single optical disc the same size as a normal DVD or CD. There's only one problem with this new technology- it's widespread adoption is being held up by a format war.

If you want to save money while getting all of the home telecommunications services that you need, you'll want to take a good look at your cable TV company. That's because if that company is anything like Comcast, then you'll be able to get your TV service, high speed Internet access, and home phone line all from one company. This is even more convenient because when services are bundled together like this they all appear on the same bill and most companies that do this will give you a discount on the bundled services. Comcast definitely will.

One of the more interesting new types of technology to come about in recent memory is the introduction of an new type of data storage for computers and other digital electronic devices, called flash memory. Flash memory was actually invented back in 1984 by an engineer working for Toshiba. Since that time, it has gradually been refined to the point where it's cost effective to be used in a variety of different devices in the present.

The technology that goes into video recording gadgets has come a long way in the past few years. In fact, thanks to new HDTV technology it's possible for even amateur home video enthusiasts to create video clips that rivals what the big movie studios can produce in terms of picture resolution, sound quality, and aspect ratio!

With the Internet constantly growing, you may be seriously shortchanging yourself if you don’t have high speed Internet right in your home. Getting high speed Internet though is easier said than done. After all, there are a lot of different companies using a lot of different technologies to provide “high speed” or “broad band” Internet access, but many of the technologies that make these claims provide very different connection times. In fact, it seems like most of these companies’ definitions of high speed Internet access is anything that’s faster than dial up!

There's no doubt that computer technology has changed the world. Computers are now nearly ubiquitous, with computer components built into just about every type of product in existence ranging from cars to toys to wristwatches to home appliances. In fact, its the rare wristwatch, car, or washing machine that doesn't have more number crunching power than the computer that was developed to go long on the Apollo moon missions!

One of the most fascinating new technologies to come out in the past couple of years is high definition DVD technology. High Definition DVD's are optical discs (which means that they are read and recorded with the use of lasers) that are the same size as a normal DVD or a compact disc. The difference is that thanks to the use of laser technology that uses a shorter wavelength, high definition DVD's can hold a lot more data. In fact, while a normal DVD can store enough data to render a full length movie plus its bonus features in standard definition television format, a high def DVD has a large enough data storage capacity to hold the same amount of content in High Definition Television format. HDTV is much more data intensive than standard definition TV due primarily to the fact that it displays much higher resolution pictures. Like CD's and conventional DVD's, high def DVD's also have plenty of data storage applications for computers as well.
