Printing digital photographs in color yourself means using an ink jet printer and up until very recently ink jet printers- especially when printing in color- have been very expensive to operate. Generally, photographic prints on a traditional ink jet printer can cost as much as thirty cents for a typical four inch by six inch picture. That's alot more than the cost of traditional thirty five millimeter film processed and turned into prints. Enthusiasts of mobile electronic devices often have two completely different expectations that electronics companies have to balance. These are the expectations that newer devices are more compact, but also that they're more functional. Satisfying one expectation or the other isn't actually a problem. You see, it's easy to create a lot of functionality into a larger device just as it's simple to build a device with few functions extremely portable, but it's difficult to build them both into the same device. Amazingly, these days electronic devices are so small that the defining factor in how compact a device can be isn't restrained so much as what it's capable of, but by how easily its users can take advantage of those capabilities. For example, it's simple to build word processing and email capability into an extremely tiny devices, but that ability is useless if there's no room for a keyboard on it. In this case, the device has to be big enough to accommodate the size of human hands.

LG electronics has recently introduced a device that's likely to become the perfect gift for the home entertainment enthusiast who has everything- a high definition TV fridge. I'm not making this up. LG's new (HD|high} def refrigerator has a 15in LCD screen that's capable of displaying HDTV resolutions mounted on the appliance's door. This side by side model will let users watch TV while puttering around the kitchen and may be just what the home entertainment enthusiast who doesn't want their viewing interrupted by a case of the munchies asked for. But, with a price tag of about four thousand dollars, it might not be a good item to give as a present this holiday season.

One of the fascinating things about newer forms of technology is that manufacturers can pack so much power into such small devices. For example, it used to be that if you wanted to film video of family trips, holidays, or even your own full length movie; you had to deal with a huge, heavy camera with a terrible battery life that produced grainy analog video onto bulky VCR tapes. Today, we've jumped forward by centuries. Not only have the tapes gotten smaller, but we've been able to do away with them entirely by trading them with writable DVD's, memory cards, memory sticks, and even hard drives installed into the video camera itself!
